Rajni to do a quickie before Robot!!
Superstar Rajinikanth is going to do a quickie for his mentor K Balachandar, to be directed by P Vasu before he starts Robot! In a sensational development, Rajinikanth has agreed in principle to do a film for KB's production company Kavithaalaya. It is going to be a remake of the Malayalam super hit Katha Parayumbol released for Christmas in Kerala. The film is a light-hearted sentimental comedy that pulls at your heart strings and is about the deep friendship between a barber in a village and a superstar who comes to shoot a film there. It is a hit because of its emotional story value and outstanding performances by Sreenivasan as the barber (he also is the writer and producer of the film along with actor Mukesh), Meena as his loving wife and mother of three children and Mammootty who is brilliant as the superstar.Last week Sreenivasan held a special screening of the film for Rajinikanth in Chennai. After the movie, Rajini who was Sreeni?s senior at South India Film Chamber Institute hugged him. An emotionally choked superstar told him - "It is the best film that I have seen in recent times, it is very touching. Hats off to you Sreeni!" Next day he called Sreenivasan home and they discussed in detail how the writer, director and actor is able to come out with stories of the ordinary man which appeals to the common man. Please note that Vellithirai is also a remake of Sreenivasan?s classic Udayananu Tharam. One thing led to another, and Rajinikanth the do-gooder and "Mr. Nice Guy" that he is, wanted to do the film for his mentor KB. According to sources close to the development, four Tamil actors including a famous comedian turned hero wanted to buy the remake rights! As of now, Kavithalaaya is the front runner and they have signed up Pasupathy to do the role of the barber, while Rajinikanth will play the superstar and it will be directed by P.Vasu, with two village type songs by Vidyasagar. The shoot of the film will start immediately and Rajinikanth would prefer to complete and release the film by June/ July, before he starts Shankar's Robot. It is possible as the superstar character appears in only eight scenes in the original including an item song and the stunning 14 minute climax, which is the highlight of the film. Mammootty had completed his work in 15 days for Katha Parayumbol, and even if P.Vasu changes the story to suit the superstar's image and Tamil nativity he can finish work on the film in less than a month.Rajinikanth would be the ideal choice to play the superstar and Pasupathy the right choice for the barber character. And with KB giving his valuable inputs to the script, P.Vasu the master in remaking Malayalam films into Tamil, the combination is sure to click.
